'The Inchcape'
- the Arbroath Lifeboat
Signed Limited Edition Prints by Steven Patrick Sim
Raising
money for the Angus Crew Training Fund!
The
east coast fishing town of Arbroath has had a lifeboat
for over 200 years, since 1803. The lifeboat station
there was one of the first established in Scotland.
The RNLI
took over responsibility for the service in 1865.
The present Arbroath lifeboat, 'Inchcape', takes
her name from the infamous Inchcape reef on which
the Bellrock lighthouse stands, where many vessels
and lives have met their untimely end. A Mersey
class boat, the 35th of 37 built, she has been in
service since August 1993 and has a range of 140
nautical miles with a top speed of 17 knots provided
by two 285 horse power turbo-diesels. She weighs
16 tons and has a crew of 6.
Currently there are 29 volunteers
who serve on the 'Inchcape'. |
